The Mission Of Jake's Gift
Jake's Gift is a not-for-profit organisation that was founded in 2009 by his mum Tracey Cahill.
Jake, a twin, lost his little life to Dilated Cardiomyopathy - a disease of the heart muscle - in February 2007 at just 52 days young.
Many months after the loss of Jake, Tracey felt the need to do something as a lasting legacy in his honour, provide awareness of Paediatric Cardiomyopathy and comfort to families who have endured a similar loss.
Jake's Gift provides financial assistance, information packs on the subject of paediatric cardiomyopathy and practical support to families of children who suffer from any form of cardiomyopathy, as well as promoting awareness of this incurable heart disease within the greater community.
The Jake's Gift information packs give families a knowledge base in regard to paediatric cardiomyopathy, procedures that their child may receive whilst in hospital, information in regard to the medication their child may be prescribed, an information leaflet for extended family and friends thus alleviating any further stress to the family and patient. The cardiomyopathy information packs are made available to all hospitals, health centres, paediatric consultation rooms and clinics within Australia as well as to the greater community.
Jake's Gift can provide immediate access to networks and self help groups and if possible, other families within Australia who have a child diagnosed with cardiomyopathy or who have had a child pass away due to cardiomyopathy so to lessen the feelings of isolation.
Jake's Gift provides families who sadly have lost a child in hospital with a Memory Keeper. A Memory Keeper is a unique storage container the family can keep special little items that they now hold so dear.
Through fundraising Jake's Gift will endeavour to donate a twin crib to hospitals that lack the funding to purchase one. This is a lasting legacy to celebrate Jake's twinship with his sister Aylah.
